How can I dispose of latex (water based) paint?

Fill the can with floor dry or cat litter. Mix the floor dry and paint together, leave lid off can and allow mixture to dry (approximately 8 hours) then dispose of as regular garbage. Leave lids off cans so they can be inspected.

What is not accepted at the Kossuth County Transfer Station?

Wastes not accepted at the Kossuth County Transfer Station are listed below.

Wastes determined to be hazardous by Iowa Administrative Code.
Sewage sludge, including unstabilized septic tank pumpings.
Industrial wastes not approved for acceptance by the IDNR.
Infectious wastes, unless approved by the IDNR.
Asbestos, acids, poisons, caustics, pesticides, herbicides
Used oil or used oil filters.
Radioactive wastes
Free liquids or wastes containing free liquids
Animal manure or dead animals.
Waste containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s)
Waste that could spontaneously combust or could ignite otherwastes due to temperatures.
Tires, lead acid batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries.
Trees or yard waste
Motorized vehicles, machinery, wire, large rocks or concrete.
Major house hold appliances (except for recycling drop-off)
Wet paint products
Explosives
Electronics such as computers, monitors, copy machines, faxmachines, televisions etc. (except for e-waste recycling drop off)
Any other wastes that are determined to be unacceptable.

NOTE:
Household Hazardous Wastes are accepted by appointment at the recycling building by appointment only during the months of May to September at no charge. There is a fee for commercial customers.

Appliances such as metal white goods, washing machines, clothes dryers, stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, air conditioners etc. are accepted at the recycling building for fee of $15.00 each.

Electronic Waste (E-waste) will be accepted at the recycling building for the posted e-waste fees.
